Story

In 2009, “Y by YOSHIKI” was born between renowned Japanese artist YOSHIKI and Napa Valley winemaker and 4th generation vintner, Rob Mondavi Jr. The grapes are sourced from premium vineyards across California and express the artistry, quality and creativity of this unique partnership. This California series is described by YOSHIKI as “smart casual” that is not only for wine lovers but also fits in with your everyday lifestyle.

The Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon were named “Encore” because they were so popular that they were released twice in the same vintage. Starting in 2024, the “Y by YOSHIKI California” series, which YOSHIKI has called his “smart casual” wines , will be renamed the “Y by YOSHIKI Encore” series and a new “Rosé” wine will be added to the line up. Rosé wines have become very popular worldwide in recent years. In France, consumption has tripled over the past 23 years, and it is said that one out of every four bottles of wine consumed is Rosé wine. Rosé wines are becoming increasingly popular in the U.S. as well. YOSHIKI has come to enjoy fresh and refreshing rosé wines so it was only natural that with Rob Mondavi Jr., he has decided to produce his own Rosé wine from California.

The Growing Season

In 2023 the California harvest was one of the longest growing seasons in 10 years or more. Wonderful consistent, tepid weather throughout the entire growing season allowing for above-average crop yields and also providing for long hang times for the grapes yielding exceptionally high quality and a near-perfect vintage. The 2023 growing season produced wines with exceptional freshness, purity and elegance overall.

The Winemaking Process

The grapes are night-harvested to preserve the freshness of the grape. When arriving at the winery the grapes are directly pressed and moved to pristine stainless steel tanks where an intentionally cold fermentation at 54 degrees Fahrenheit is maintained to preserve the aromatics of the wine.

Wine

The YOSHIKI Rosé demonstrates aromatics of red berries, citrus fruits small tangerines, and white blossom. Delicious with tart mixed salmon berries on the palate with a smooth and silky mouthfeel. The long finish is complemented by the citrus, subtle nectarine, and wonderful white strawberry.
